A message from Coach ......

One of the great lessons that sports teaches us is that we can go out there and compete to the best of our ability and not always win.  That is not a bad thing.  In fact, it is a lesson that needs to be experienced and understood.  We can not always win in sports-or in life-but if we play the best we can, treat our opponents and the officials with respect while giving our absolute best effort, we can walk away with a sense of pride and accomplishment.

As a coach, years of competitive experience and on-field wisdom should be used to prepare your team to play close to its highest level on a consistent basis.  The primary role of a coach is to teach the players how to play and approach the game the right way.  You can be the greatest teacher of fundamentals in the world and have your team physically prepared to play to the best of its ability every time out, but that is less than half the job.  The most important function of a coach – especially one who deals with younger athletes – is to be a positive role model.

Young players respect and emulate their coaches, sometimes even more than their own parents.  They view their coaches as experts and authority figures. Coaches tend to make a lasting impact on their players; I will always keep that in mind.
